Currently, engineered or manufactured materials like quartz, marble, terrazzo, etc. are more desirable, especially in commercial and government buildings due to LEED’s credits, greater durability, and perceived lower maintenance needs.  Yet, these materials have specific installation and maintenance requirements.   If these requirements are not taken into account, then serious issues may arise.

  • Follow manufacturer’s installation recommendations

  • Specially modified mortar and/or thinset are required for proper bonding

  • Even though these products are more durable, maintenance is still required

  • Some products can react negatively to sealers; consult the manufacturer’s for recommendations
